Textured Tubes & More Review

"And More" is an understatement!

This tutorial is very well broken down and there are no "gaps" that leave you guessing about how to get from one picture to the next. I like that pictures and words both tell the story - what to do and how to do it. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it when little interim steps are included, and when the teacher makes the extra effort to include those pictures which show the "how".

There is also lots of explanation as to WHY something is done a certain way. This really helps the learning experience, helps avoid errors, and provides a good background for independent exploration when one is ready to apply the techniques in other ways. If there are "right" ways and "wrong" ways to make beads such as these, this is the "right" way.

What really makes this tutorial worthy of the price, though are tips and tricks, as well as the color charts. I appreciate the attention to finishing touches and suggestions on products to use for the best outcome.

The description of what you get in this lesson down-plays the value of the color information. There are charts that show specific combinations of texture sheets and powders, with completed examples, so you can easily replicate a favorite look without spending tons of time guessing about the texture or the powder color. But wait, there's more! There is also a chart that shows examples of different combinations of colors of clay and colors of powder. This gives you a clue about the possible outcome of using light or dark powders on light or dark clays, for example.

As far as tips go, there are plenty. I liked the ideas on how to use different kinds of applicators, and how to apply multiple colors of powders with each staying in it's proper spot.

So, if you are wondering if this tutorial is "worth" the price, I believe the answer is "yes". What this covers is the equivalent of at LEAST a two hour class or workshop, if not more.

As usual, I'm thinking about whether kids could do this. Because of the care needed for rolling out even tube beads thickness, it would be a challenge. However, if the instructions for making a focal are followed, I think older kids could do this as long as adults use a needle tool to make the holes and do any necessary blade work (which is minimal).

Thanks so much for this great review! You were asking about kids doing it? Our one grandson (age 10) has made himself several beaded necklaces with these type of beads when he was visiting over the summer and he did quite well at it! One of the bead textures was his idea as well! They are a lot of fun to make!
