If you want to do a little easy polymer clay work and simple wire work together, then this lesson is just what you're looking for. If you hate wires crossing and piling up on the back of your work, this is for you because there aren't any wires on the back! AND I'll show you how to make this in such a way as to keep the wire from slipping off the heart. Your project will be to make the simple framed heart like the plain blue one.


Prerequisites - My free lesson, Stamped Mica Shift, is a good prerequisite for this lesson because this one also uses some of the same techniques for preparing the clay. It's also helpful if you already know how to make eye loops and wrapped loops so you are comfortable working with pliers, and loops are not taught here. You don't need any experience with clay, but please use ONLY artist grade clay such as Premo brand clay or Kato Polyclay! No regular Sculpey, no Fimo, no craft store house brand.


You will learn how to mold the heart and prepare it for accepting the wire frame. If you are new to clay, you will learn how to handle it, shape it, and finish it. If you are new to wire, use a couple of the free lessons to practice loops and get the feel of the wire, and we'll use tape to help hold things and protect your clay work from the tools. In other words, you can do this!


I've included pictures with ideas of where you can take this as you become more advanced and want to fancy it up a bit. If you already have my "Hearts and Flowers" lesson, the instructions for doing all the little sculpting work are in that lessson. What you will get from THIS lesson are the techniques for making the heart and the simple wire frame. And you might be ready for the challenge of weaving the bail which I'm not teaching but there are other lessons that cover that.
